According to some FM radio station
today is the most depressing day of the year. I guess the distance from the holidays, bleakness of the weather, failure of New Year's resolutions and the lack of future vacation all make it depressing. (May 18th is supposedly the happiest day) I don't know about you, but my day wasn't so bad. Day two of these new children and they are still well behaved. One student in the hallway even yelled under the door: "Damn Ms. J you've got those [explative] on lockdown." Which is an unintended high compliment around these parts. Also the high school children set their side of the building on fire today.
The depressing part of my day however was realizing how much more potential I have to get it right this semester and thus how I failed my first semester kids. The few that I really care about, the few that will always be my frist, that I can't possibly care about any future students that way - I feel like I failed them. If I could have been on my game with them they could have gotten so much farther.

If they were really as bad as you said, I don't think they'll realize you felt like you failed them. (That probably didn't help at all, but still.)
