The highs and lows of being an overplanner
Today I was rewarded for my ability and concientiousness in lesson planning and instruction by recieving the highest level in these categories in my mid-year review. I am especially proud after being told this summer that first year teachers do not get these ratings. In actuality my principal is actually just a nice, appriciative guy, but I just like being recognized for being good at something. Positive reinforcement is the best motivation. He also asked for my (and every teacher's opinion) on various issues. Whether it was small talk or not I think this an excellent indicator of a good leader.
However my overplanning was also a hinderance when I found out I won't be getting a new batch of little ones until next monday. It's not a disasterous inconvinence but it leaves me with two days after I've "closed up" and my mind has already shifted. I'm always working two steps ahead and I'm not sure that is a positive thing in urban education.
