My little three foot joker
I forgot to post this classroom incident last week...
After spending one day talking about North America, West Africa and Europe in the 1500's (independently of one another) we created a comparison chart looking at religion, art, currency, technology and social structure. Let me preface this story by saying that for money they used nothing, gold and salt, and chicken and eggs, respectively. Their social structures were generally equal, emperors and kings. In my advanced class I held a mini-discussion on which society would be ideal to live in. As I expected, most said North America so we talked about how history usually values money and technology (seen in West Africa and Europe) more than a relatively equal society etc etc etc. But then of course my little three foot joker has to raise his hand and say "Nah I'd rather live in Europe" "Okay," I said, "why Europe?" "Because they have chicken!"
