Agreed
"Raising teacher salaries isn't really about rewarding teachers. It's about whether your kids and grandkids will learn from top educators, every year in every classroom."
Because I make a decent amount of money for a single person I don't feel the crunch, however I think this is the most important fact of the salary debate. One main reason the schools are failing are the lack of good, solid teachers - teachers that fully grasp content and are academic by nature. No mathematical genius is going to teach when they can triple the salary in any other job. Educating our children needs to be given the same weight as any businesss or corporate venture.

OK - I agree 100% that salaries should match the the definite importance of the job however in the "real" world there is no tenure AND a 3 month vacation.
Who is that? In the "real" world, people don't spend their own money on supplies, don't spend so much time outside of the required hours of the job doing extra work, don't endure abuse from "clients"....
Thanks Vic! Also no vacation is three months and more importantly the job averages around 10 hours a day (I recently read that statistic) and ends when the work day is over. But mainly I am just offended that teaching is not considered the "real world."
