Delawhere?

Today I drove to Wilmington with some fantastic older teachers from another city school and learned some neat things from Croatian judges. I've embarked on this path that I'm not sure if I'm extraordinarily thrilled about or worried may not be exactly what I should be doing. I have years and years of the classroom left before I should even be thinking like this.

This weekend is going to be great. Not that taking my final certification test, researching at Hopkins, going to the Hopkins film festival and spending all of Sunday writing a research paper and unit plan are particularly great, but once this weekend is over my graduate school stress will subside, I will have completed all the requirements for Maryland State certification and the month of May will commence.

The film festival is exciting in its own right. They are showing Stop Snitchin' back to back with Keep Talking. Inside Baltimore this is a phenomenon, outside of the city I'm not sure it's quite so popular. Essentially it is a video put out by drug dealers and the like who (strongly and threateningly) discourage "snitching" on dealers in your neighborhood. Former resident and current NBA star Carmelo Anthony appears in the video, as does a cousin of one of my students. It really resonates with my children who often refuse to turn others in because of the messages in the video. Keep Talking, which I know less about, is the police response to the video.

Oh Baltimore. How I loathe thee. Although anything outside of the city - the rest of the state, the east coast in general - is gorgeous. I need to spend more time visiting.
