I was hired to be a teacher, not a warden. I know now that I do have the ability to successfully manage a classroom of middle school students. However, my job should not include behavior issues above and beyond the regular activities of middle schoolers. I am very unhappy that my instruction must be confined to rigoriously structured activities. All the research shows that students learn best in group settings, with technology and student directed. However when I try these types of instruction my students lose their minds. So I'm done trying.
