Odd forms of flattery

Today the couselor was in my room initiating students into the high school application process. On the side of the classroom I had the following exchange with a student:

"Psst, Ms. J, where are you going to high school?"
"What? Do you mean where did I go to high school?"
*pause* "Yeah"
"I went to school in New York"
"Yeah, but what high school?"
"Orchard Park"
"Okay. I'm going to Orchard Park High School then."
"Uh, okay, but you have to be a Bills fan."
"Dang, I don't know if I can do that."
