A series of violations
Well, it’s a good thing I remembered my blog existed, because otherwise I would have had to laugh at “Ms. J, I can’t use a pencil, it makes my teeth itch” by myself. I was also told I "need to go on Ripley's Believe It or Not" because I am a "freak of nature" because my "arms bend so weird" too, but that didn't seem as ridiculous.
We received a flyer for yet another religious event in our mailboxes today. This happens regularly – usually from the union or the school district itself. I’ve now worked at two schools that repeatedly pray at faculty meetings and over the announcements. No offense or anything, but doesn’t this fall into that pesky “separation of church and state” thing?
I also made the foolish mistake of leaking the details of my personal life to several other members of the eighth grade staff. Not that I’ve ever shunned extra attention, but I didn’t ask to be everyone’s lost soul in need of saving. I do love the debates that have ensued over relationships, especially because they have made me an observer of my own life. And as far as I can tell dating is just like teaching. I have been told: “you look and act too nice and wholesome,” “you are much too tolerant, you need to take less bullshit,” “you need to wait at least three months before you let anyone actually get to know you – it’s all just a game before then,” “you need to have unrealistically high expectations if you ever expect anything from them,” and “for the love of God you need to stop being so honest and talking so much. You ask questions, not answer them,” which is pretty amusing considering I have heard ALL OF THESE THINGS in relation to bad teachers. Making the lesson of the day - bad teacher = bad dater.
After school today a group of us (teachers) were sitting in my room talking about the influx of weed in school when I was asked if I ever took a chalk writing class in college. Excuse me?!?! People spend exorbitant amounts of time and money taking courses in college that teach you how to write on a chalkboard. Are you kidding? We are not going to solve the problems of public education by WRITING NEATLY ON THE BOARD!!!
I’m stunned by stupidity. I need to go lie down.
1 Comments:
I never took a chalk board writing course but I did particiapte in a weekend retreat devoted entirely to dry erase boards.
And I have already filed in district court against the Baltimore Public School District for protomting religious activities in the public sphere. Thier legal fees alone should prevent any pay bonuses, my apologies to you and your peers.
I have to go now, this email is making my teeth itch.
