so much shouting, so much laughter
Rewind. A bad case of deja vu. Like I accidentally sidestepped all the way back into last year. A tension headache instigated by sheer frustration. Why bother planning a simulation lesson when nothing is constant. Why bother planning at all? Here I am - a fool as usual - with a plan thwarted by poor teacher attendance. Sixty kids. Some at my computer. Some at my desk. Some in chairs without a writing surface. This is getting old.
Then one of them comes to me with his school of the arts acceptance letter. And I can barely keep it in. More excitement than if the good fortune had fallen upon me. He is being given a chance at success. At happiness. Better yet, he is being recognized for his potential. The knowledge that his life will be infinitely improved.
Not too long after a child walks into the math room and exclaimed, "I need to get a blow job today." I recognize the hilarity, but it's also the reality. This is the other 99% of the job.
This is getting old.

God, I know how that second kid feels.
I am constanly staggered by your tales of colleague apathy/ineptitude/attendance.
In the cinematic triupmh that is Hard Ball, the lead character Conor O'Neill played to thespian perfection by Keanu Reeves who totally got jacked on an Oscar nom by the by, shares an insipid nugget of philosophic tripe along the lines of "99% of life is showing up, I'm amazed at your ability to show up."
Perhaps there is more wisdom in Keanu's words than I previously thought. It seems a base amount of regularity in these' kids' lives would work wonders (not to mention help you keep your wits about you).
Well, in all seriousness Val, let me say I am amazed at your abilty to show up, it takes an inordinate amount of grace and patience to do what you do and my hat is off to you.
Matt you do not know how that second kid feels unless you are a less than five foot mentally retarded (no, really, see IEP) kleptomanic who lies all the time.
BTW, my life in remarkably enhanced by your comments to my blog. Thank you for that.
so the other 99% of the job is blow jobs?
