This is written in haste

Imagine the trauma of being a young, ultimately suburban grown white girl and having a big ol' switchblade slide to your feet as you hopeless try and educate the less economically fortunate members of your society. No. Wait. Imagine being the even younger, respectful but ultimately gang grown boy who accidentally lets a giant knife slide out of his pocket, across the floor, to his teacher. Alright, in all seriousness... I have never wished my back had been turned on the kids more in my entire life. And I'm not sure why. Because honestly, if you have weapon in school there should be some sort of consequence, no? Yet somehow I feel a tremendous amount of guilt. Here comes proposed expulsion. Here comes removal from normalcy, again. Super.

What else is new? Hmmm. I had a student bring me a nurse pass for one of my boys first period today. Nurse territory is not somewhere that I tend to pry - frankly I don't want to know what goes on in that corner of the world. However, when my student returned today I discovered that he had been called to the nurse's office to have a sex talk and culminated with the gift of a pocket full of condoms. NO ONE TELL THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION. I, of course, thought this was brilliant. Although I had to do the "ah ah ah ah, stop talking immediately this is not something I want to hear about, save it for lunch, or math class" when he tried to brag to all his classmates.

I do love nurse stories though. Ours is particularly known for diagnosing every problem as a lack of nutrition. Now this seems reasonable considering the Cheetos and mountain dew diet that 95% of my students are on. However, I've come to learn that the "eat something" solution goes beyond stomach aliments. One of my more aggressive students had recently injured himself in gym class. He slammed his hand or something and potentially broken a bone. So what did the nurse do? Gave him crackers and told him to lie down. Then sent him back to class.
